To the learned authoress of a book lately published,
intitled Observations on the Writings and Genius of
Shakespear, with some remarks on the criticisms of Monsieur
de Voltaire on that celebrated poet.
Madam,
  When Sheba's Queen the Monarch's splendor ey'd,
Her spirits sunk, and lost her native pride.
  So I enraptur'd at thy polish'd page,
O thou Minerva of this learned Age,
And scarce dare attune my lyre to sing thy praise,
A theme to lofty for my humbler lays!
. . . [28 more lines, signed] Princess Anne [County],
July 27th 1774.
